When I hear the words, "We The People", when I see the words "We The People", I always start to sing "We The People"...Remember the School House Rock song??? I'm a HUGE HUGE FAN! It's the only reason I can recite the preamble to our constitution and to be honest, 25 years ago was the foundation for my beginning to understand how and who formed America and how we declared our independence from England. Throughout the years, School House Rock was there to teach me about diversity, government, and sufferage, along with grammar, math and science and today I can sing all the songs word for word! I kid you not!
The beauty of "We The People" is that it is followed by "In Order To Form a More Perfect Union." A more perfect union. That was the goal of our founding fathers when they sat down to write the United States Constitution. I think our founding fathers understood that forming a more perfect union is a never-ending, always changing, process.
Barack Obama is the only candidate that can bridge gaps in this nation and begin to bridge gaps internationally. He's the only candidate that understands that forming a more perfect union is a road that probably never ends. While the other candidates are practicing their long DIVISION, he's practicing long VISION. (yes, I made that one up).
In the following speech he just delivered this morning, he explains his relationship with his pastor. And really, to me, it doesn't matter that it is his pastor. It matters to everyone against him, but to me he could be speaking about anyone who has a different experience, a different pain, or a different struggle than myself. Obama is the only candidate that can take a person's divisive statements (such as Wright's), condemn the words without condemning the man, and bridge the gap and call for unity between parties involved. Don't we want this man leading our county in the same manner? I do.
And if you'd rather read his words instead of watching, here's the speech.

Never has a politician confronted race so directly and eloquently. His calmenss and the way he has responded to the attacks on his character demonstrate exactly what we need in a President after 8 years of failure.
Hillary Clinton: "I will put forth my lifetime of experience. Senator Obama will put forth a speech he made in 2002."
One: Did it ever occur to her that a speech reflects the views of the speaker, is based on the speaker's experience, and can inspire and lead to action?
Two: A speech can change lives. This was the first time I'd ever heard any politician speak out about race so clearly and honestly. And effectively.
It was neither defensive nor patronizing. It addressed, head on, painful and volatile issues, in an easy-to-understand, earnest manner.
My impressions? It was: Truthful. Direct. Poised. Groundbreaking. Genuine. Informative. Heartfelt. Potent. Courageous. Intelligent. Analytical. Uplifting. Hopeful. Candid.
I expected less. I got more. It affected me deeply.
He displayed guts and heart. And leadership.
A home run.
And he is Black
Dear SA
Throw him a curve ball, and he hits even better. That's what I love about him. He keeps proving it time and time again. When you are genuine and honest and you couple that with intelligence and the ability to articulate yourself to any crowd, you can't strike out.
Ahhh come on Geraldine...you're not afraid of the old saying are you?
Dr. King said:
Cowardice asks the question -is it safe?
Expediencey asks the question - is it politic?
Vanity asks the question - is it popular?
But conscience, conscience asks the question - is it right?
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular; but one must take it because it is right.
Obama just did that
Mrs. Hix,
Very nicely written. If you have read what I wrote in the past about him you will see I was on the fence with him before Anderson busted him.
The only thing I know is this. I would never, ever have assoiated myself with anyone who hated anyone because of their color. Mr. Write surely hates whites. It does bother me some that people still follow.
I do realize that I am sronger than most and I also realize that I think long and hard before deciding, taking all things into consideration. I understan that it is tough to stand on morals and princaples and to believe what was written in the constitution, but I soldier on, doing these things because I know they are right. I know you don't have time to read my foolishness but I said in past posts I would not be voting in this years presidential election. Mr. Obama has changed my mind. If we re-vote in Fl. I will be voting for Hillary, or anyone on the Dem ticket other than Obama. In the general I will be voting for whoever I think can beat Obama.
I don't do socialists, marxists or people who obviously hate America. I don't participate in the Church house, but there is no way a Christian can vote for him, no way.
I do know this though, if I was ever anywhere that had some idiot racist was spewing hate like the Rev. did, I would confront that, head on, I would stop the hate and I would speak my mind to the followers of the hater. There are haters in this world, they are in the form of Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Barack Obama, and Loius F. and Rev White. Mrs. Hix I am not stupid, there are white haters, and asian haters and muslim haters etc etc etc. I know this. But I am smarter than someone that would sit in the hall while these haters spoke.
If you are all for Goddamn America then you vote for Obama will be greatly appreciated.
GODDAMN AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Typical ignorance - a white guy who does not understand that many people the Rev. Wright (not write) lived through segragation and of course, have bitter feelings about it. I am amazed when a white guy like this yahoo calls these men "haters". Why wouldn't you be angry if you went to the back of the bus, had to use seperate facilities andwas in fear of lynching. Yes, there is anger but understanding why is important and understand that his whole point in his sermon was that America still has racial problems and many of the white people (like this yahoo) evidently don't think its a big deal -it is- his words meant that God cannot be blessing America when we are killing innocent people, here and in Iraq. Is that controversial -maybe, but not as bad as Rush Linmbaugh (who played a song Barack the Magic Negro and claimed it was not racial), or John Hagee or Bill O'Reilly, but instead, he only finds haters in black people...I also laugh at people who automatically think Obama should have left the church -exactly what Obama said today - you don't have to agree but you can still listen - the catholics don't give up their church's cause priests molested young boys. So many people like this yahoo like to be victims -he is choosing to be offended - oh my, this pastor said offensive stuff, oh my, my life is now a shambles...He should make the choice to realize that it has no effect on his life -who cares if Obama was there or not. It is just plain ignorance and unfortunately, it spells what has happened to our country - sound bites and tabloidism...I believe what is offensive is when a guy like Dick Cheney (5 deferrments)says the progress in Iraq is amazing on the same day 39 people are killed by a suicide bomber and 12 US soldiers died over the weekend. Why isn't that offensive to the yahoo. That is so much more offensive than someone who lived through hatred because of his skin color saying he cannot believe god blesses america when it is killing innocent people. The knee jerk reaction whenever someone criticizes this country is false patriotism - this country can survive criticism - what it cannot survive is people wrapping themselves in the flag and claiming they are patriots...Hey yahoo Southern Sage- I checked out some of the comments you made in the past and was very happy to see others have responded to them and agree - you are a yahoo.
Kat
Thanks for the video link...soooo funny!
Michelle, thanks so much for writing about this. You spoke so eloquently and honestly. Unlike Southern Sage, I will be supporting Senator Obama, for his courage to "love the sinner, hate the sin" among other things. His speech today was the most moving speech I've heard in some time, and I am finally proud to be an American after hearing his speak. If he is the future of America, let's go.
Jen (laughingatchaos)
I'm with ya sista!
Oh I see losers comment here. Some people are afraid of their name. It understandable, they proably voted for Kerry and Gore. I would never comment had I been such a fool. If my opinions hadn't been proved right for 8 years I'd kill myself and do the world a favor, but I see Anon is far to stupid to do that. Hopefully he won't breed, well even if he does there isn't a chance a decent looking girl will allow it.
I have been watching the news closely in US pre-elections.
I found both sides had their points and interesting views from both sides from democrat.
Interesting:)
Ahhh, the typical response of attacking the messenger rather than addressing the issue...oh your a loser cause you criticize me plus, throw in some Kerry and Gore for good taste... I notice this yahoo that you never addressed what I said, rahter you choose to just attack me...that is Bush/Rove/Cheney way of dealing with the truth.....AND THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF HOW OBAMA HANDLES THINGS - notice how he took this issue HEAD ON - no blaming others, no whisper campaigns - nope direct action...so here is a taste of your own medicine
"If my opinions hadn't been proved right for 8 years I'd kill myself and do the world a favor"
Get too it - let's see, mutiple lies 4000 dead, 25000 wounded, trillions wasted, economy sucks, yeah, these eight years should prove to Bush loving syncophants like you that lies are wrong. Maybe you can explain these quotes:
Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof---the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud."
---George W. Bush, 10/7/02
-
"We will, in fact, be greeted as liberators."
---Dick Cheney, 3/16/03
-
"There's a certain amount of pop psychology in America that the Shia can't get along with the Sunni and the Shia in Iraq just want to establish some kind of Islamic fundamentalist regime. There's almost no evidence of that at all. Iraq's always been very secular."
---Bill Kristol, 4/1/03

It's amazing that more than two weeks into the liberation of Iraq---as residents in Basra are cheering British forces and Americans occupy Baghdad's airport and Saddam Hussein's main presidential palace---the antiwar crowd is still spinning a doomsday scenario. But it's getting harder and harder to take seriously the claim that freeing Iraq will make it harder to win the war on terrorism. Indeed, there's plenty of evidence to the contrary. [...] Who said war never solved anything?
---Brendan Miniter, The Wall Street Journal, 4/8/03
-
"The only people who think this wasn't a victory are Upper Westside liberals."
---Charles Krauthammer, 4/19/03
-
Ted Koppel: [Y]ou’re not suggesting that the rebuilding of Iraq is going to be done for $1.7 billion?
Andrew Natsios [Agency for International Development]: Well, in terms of the American taxpayer's contribution, I do. This is it for the U.S.
---4/23/03

[Liberals] can't deny that President Bush has won his two wars, and won them resoundingly.
---Paul Mirengoff, Powerline, 4/26/03

"The three-week swing through Iraq has utterly shattered skeptics' complaints."
---Tony Snow, Fox News, 4/27/03
and my favorite -"I believe that the success will be fairly easy." (9/24/02)

"We’re not going to have a bloodletting of trading American bodies for Iraqi bodies." (9/29/02)
-
"We will win this conflict. We will win it easily." (1/22/03)

"[T]here’s no doubt in my mind, once these people are gone, that we will be welcomed as liberators." (3/24/03)
---Senator John McCain
SO WHEN YOUR RIGHT HAND GETS TIRED AND YOU TAKE THE TIME AWAY FROM YOUR PENIS PUMP TO OFF YOURSELF,JUST REMEMBER THAT IT WAS BUSH AND THE GOP THAT GOT US HERE...oh yeah, you probably will back out on your commitment anyway...and remember I use facts and figure while you just do a simple repetition of the White House line...nice going yahoo
oh, by the way, many of us choose to use anonymous in posting because of the psycho's like you that harrass us when we give information - it does not diminish the fact that we have valid points and don't need to wrap us in the flag to make us feel better...so deal with it yahoo, address the issues and remember, slapping the ham while reading Michelles blog is probably the best two minutes of your poor pathetic life...your small wee wee doesn't mean you have to talk big...yahoo!
So so much drama in US politics vs. Cdn politics. From my stand point the press seems to be focusing more on race and gender, the fact that US may get the first Black or Female President which of course will be a historical moment no doubt in US history. I think the press is focusing more on that than rather than each politicians platform. I can't wait to see who actually winds up in the White House. Love the new pics!

Here, Here, I Do! My eyes welled a bit watching Obama's speech.
I don't know the masterminds that are behind this media carnage Obama is going through, but I wish their identities would be revealed, for they are the biggest threat to Hope & democracy today.
i actually listened to his whole speech, 37 minutes and i'm not an american ;) really exceptional speech, i feel sorry for you guys its hard to know what to believe. i hope he's sincere, and my gut tells me he is, so i think i've turned, i think i like obama ;)
Yay Sweets!
Nah, racism doesn't exist anymore - just checkout the Paulding County Republican Party Webpage http://www.pauldingrepublicans.org/
Part way down in bold letters is the article "Disarm The Negros"
Now of course, it supposedly is about the history of Georgia gun laws but was it needed...or in conjunction with all the crap about Obama's pastor, does it play how you would expect...
Food for thought while you scratch that itch
Thanks for that link...I'll be sure to look at it later if I'm not too sore from this morning's run you dork.
School House Rock is the only reason I know how a bill becomes a law.
