For those of you with younger kids, listen up, I'm going to save your children from the depths of their uncool and unfabulous parents...
Older Child: (while in the carpool lane) I'm going to be the only one wearing a fat coat today.
Mom: It is snowing and cold today.
Older Child: But mom, 5th and 6th graders don't wear fat coats. It's just not cool. They only wear their hoodies.
Mom: Your coat is not exactly uncool. It's the most cool snowboarding coat I could find in Winter Park. It's also the most fab color EVER!
Older Child: And mom, by the time you are in 7th and 8th grade, you don't even wear a hoodie...you just wear your short sleeve shirt. See, look at them.
Mom: Yeah, I see them, they look cold to me.
Older Child: Cold and cool.
Mom: Okay, time to hop out of the car...did you want to leave your fat coat here?
Older Child: Nah...(that's short for mom is right)

Your child is smart -- realizing it's better to be warm than cool.
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
well mine are a little younger, 3rd grade but I am WAYYYY to uncool to be around!
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! Why did you come pick me up??????????????
sheeeeeeeeeesh
there was a time when I was a cool cat too.....
sigh
excellent post
tickled me.
You are a cool mom! :)
At least she's still letting you drop her off at school instead of insisting you leave her a block away so she doesn't look like a baby who can't walk by herself!
Love that you gave her the option and she chose function over fashion. There may yet be hope for the teen years! ;o)
Haha, cool kids like act like they're not cold but they're freezing. Haha I remember those days...not good
Lordy, my kid is there now. I consider it a good day if the coat makes it out of the car with him. Oh well...he's the one freezing during recess then, not me. ; )
My daughter refers to hers as her 'puffy coat' but she doesn't enter cold weather without it!
Btw, thanks for visiting me this weekend while I've been in bed. Your comments cheered me up!
Hi Michele,
how is your weekend? If you have time will you visit my post today, Me and Lady Diana Thanks
Well, when I was young and trying to be fashionable in middle school (in freezing upstate NY) I would take my socks off at the bus stop, because wearing socks was definitely not cool.
I still pay for it to this day, my toes go numb after 2 minutes outside in uggs.
As a child I learned the difference between being cool and being smart...I always thought I was not cool cause I wanted to be comfortable but one day Julie Kavner (my 1st crush) told me I was cool because I never did what the other kids did...then she asked if my best friend liked her...oh well, still not cool but stillnot caring...
You're child took the coat?? How the hell did you manage that?
You are one cool mum Michelle xx
My ten year old HATES wearing a fat coat, and anything made of wool (knitted stuff). But he still gives me a kiss goodbye.
Regardless, I bet you're still a cool and fab mom!
XOXOXOXO,
Cocaine Princess
